IncendiosMX is a remote sensing tool that improves the detection and classification of large-scale forest fires. The detector takes advantage of multispectral bands from satellite sensors to differentiate between active fires and already burned areas, offering a detailed view of the fire’s progress and aftermath. With the ability to distinguish fire, smoke, and the effects left behind, the tool provides valuable insights into both ongoing events and post-fire recovery. This monitoring technique is especially critical in regions like Mexico, where wildfires present significant environmental and social challenges.

The algorithm and the procedures to execute it, have been made open-source by the artist, available upon request to researchers, environmental agencies, and others interested in applying it.

This tool was alredy provided to municipalities in some states of southern Mexico and local authorities.
